Welcome to the official campaign Web site of Darin Lahood, candidate for Peoria County State's Attorney.
The Peoria area is enjoying a resurgence of economic activity, population growth and a sense that we are moving in the right direction. Certainly, Caterpillar’s strong performance, the booming health care sector, agribusiness innovations and infrastructure investments are fueling job growth and an air of optimism.
But the one cloud that hangs over the Peoria area is crime. Criminal activity continues to hold back our progress and creates a sense of insecurity in some of our neighborhoods and streets. According to the Illinois State Police, Peoria County has the highest crime rate in the state over the past five years. Whether you live on the south side of Peoria, the north side of the city, in a small town or on a farm, that statistic should alarm you because crime affects us all.
There are efforts to combat crime led by Peoria Mayor Ardis, members of the City Council, Police Chief Settingsgaard, Sheriff McCoy, and others who are determined to reduce crime and take criminals off the streets. They are making progress. But the Peoria County State’s Attorney has been absent from these efforts. And that, my friends, is wrong.
That’s why I am running for State’s Attorney — to bring change to the office and foster new ideas, a fresh approach and new energy in the fight against crime. And, I will make sure the Peoria County State’s Attorney is at the table when our community leadership meets to develop innovative, cooperative strategies to fight crime.
You can see from the different parts of my web site that I bring a sense of urgency to addressing crime. I’ve included my background as a prosecutor with diverse experience in crime fighting. I’ve also outlined some new initiatives and will bring more forward as the campaign progresses.
